We all find it tough in the winter to remain upbeat and positive when its dark and grey outside. It's especially important to keep our older loved ones in mind during this time. So often the care home or seniors village may have flu/cold outbreaks and restrict activities. It's hard not to feel trapped. Remember that even a "quick" drop in visit or phone call can brighten someone's day. Bringing a favourite treat, book, puzzle or even balloon can lift their spirits.
Just because it's grey outside doesn't mean it's grey inside. You will feel better for making an extra effort and the smile on their face is immeasurable! Happy visiting!

Recently, I have had a number of calls for my services from existing caregivers.. Interestingly, they need relief, are going on vacation or the services have gotten too big for them to handle alone. When the caregiver has approached the friend/family member/neighbour suggesting they call me, they have been met with resistance. It is hard to invite an "unknown" person into your home and they tend to dig in their heels and say they are "fine".
My suggestion is to introduce me before you need me. Then instead of another stranger coming through the door, I am a familiar face and they can ask lots of questions before they hire me. I am more than happy to set up a 15 minute Introduction Meeting and help pave the way. Have a great day - The Head Helper Susan As we reach the end of January, it's time to ease the frustrations of winter! What are they you ask ...
Being stuck indoors due to weather Having to bundle up in all those clothes and boots Not being able to get a sniff of fresh air Unable to get around easily and do your errands When your hands don't work as well as they use to for writing Or bending down to get into the bottom dresser drawer is just not possible to name a few. So take action and call Gramma's Little Helper! I can help you get outdoors safely and wearing the proper clothes. We can get those errands crossed off your list with me driving and escorting you in and out of each location. You can get a little sniff of fresh air but not too much so you are chilled. If your hands need some assistance, I can write your list, thank you notes or letters. Maybe we can re-organize the dresser or cupboard to make things easier for you! You don't need to be frustrated!
